When MacMillan & Bloedel decided to sell their forest lands on Galiano Island in 1989 the battle for residential rights on Forest Land began. Over the years various groups and individuals have attended numerous Trust Council meetings to voice their ongoing concerns with the hope of finding a solution.

The Galiano Ratepayers Association was formed in 1991 to become a voice for the rights of property owners on Galiano.

In many ways the Galiano Ratepayers Association acted as the opposition to Government views when policies and objectives appeared detrimental to property owners, as per our purposes listed in the Galiano Ratepayers consitution.
